Professional background
Moira began her paediatric physiotherapy career at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne in 2004, where she gained acute and subacute experience in all areas of practice including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, neurology, cardiothoracics and chronic developmental conditions. She then worked in Belfast, United Kingdom at a specialist school for children with disabilities before returning to Australia and working for Eastern Health in a busy outpatient clinic predominantly managing infants with plagiocephaly, torticollis, postural variations such as intoeing gait and developmental delays.
Having completed her Specialist Certificate in Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapy in 2011, Moira led the development of a new specialised service at the Angliss Hospital for infants at risk of, or suspected to have, developmental dysplasia of the hip. This was established collaboratively with the Head of Paediatrics and the Radiology department.
Whilst completing her Masters in Paediatric Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, Moira moved to Houston, Texas, USA in 2013 where she was an active member of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, serving on the International Affairs Committee between 2013 and 2017. In this role she developed important collegial relationships and maintained current knowledge of evidence-based practice and advances in developmental medicine. She worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children’s Hospital with critically ill premature infants, and most recently in the Paediatric Outpatient Department of Texas Children’s Hospital, primarily evaluating and treating infants with plagiocephaly, torticollis, developmental delay, cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders.
